This is, by far, the LONGEST Sonic the Hedgehog game for the Genesis. It's actually two games combined, as told in the title. This is a lock-on ROM that contains the data from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 locked into the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge, effectively making Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
The game contains 16, count 'em, SIXTEEN zones for you to play through. Like Sonic the Hedgehog 2, once you collect all the Chaos Emeralds, you can turn into Super Sonic, but in this game exclusively, you can turn into Hyper Sonic by collecting the Super emeralds. Getting the Super emeralds requires you to play through an advanced set of Sonic 3's special stages, but with the difficulty bumped up hugely.
Unlike Sonic the Hedgehog 2, this game contains no random death pits, and the game is very straightforward and somewhat easy to play. For Sonic Newbies, this is a must. It's the easiest, smoothest version of Sonic to play on the Genesis, and is perfect for beginners. The game's music, an array of 16-bit masterpieces, is some of the best of it's kind.
And remember, in Carnival Night Zone, to get past the barrel, PRESS UP AND DOWN.
