The review is very detailed and has some good screenshots and great background info on the legendary SFA2. PS2 Emulator, Is this Real ??
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 10:47 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

An interesting topic on our message boards points to a PS2 emulator for the Mac, running on Mac OS X. This emulator is currently under development, and although it sounds really amazing and out of this world, it just *may* be true :). It's called The Grinch Project and you can read more about it, just click through the below links.

Hacking gamecube and xbox?!
Posted by KeeNeR @ GMT 20:20 | UIN:1185111 | Message Boards

You'll say... how is it possible, the gamecube has been released only 3 weeks ago in Japan... well, there are some rumors that say there is an extension they have been able to create and to plug into some ports of the Gamecube. (like an extern CD drive)

About xbox, it's not really rumors but they say they have been able to play something, don't remember ;( and they say the Xbox looks more like a PC than a console, I'll modify this post as soon as I remember, KeeNeR is being older everydays you know ;) ...

Finally, I do not say I'm right about that, it's just rumors I've read on the web... come on IRC to discuss about that, yep we have an IRC channel hehe.

Bleem, Bleemcast, etc.
Posted by KeeNeR @ GMT 20:11 | UIN:1185111 | Message Boards

Well, all of you surely know as now Bleem is now officially dead, to the others ones who don't know what's going on with the others emulation softwares made by Bleem, the whole company is dead... why? Sony has just destroyed it with all their legal proceedings. That means, Bleemcast is also dead. Here is a link that explains almost the whole thing.

Thanks to Zophar for the news.

Temporary Server
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 15:28 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

We knew this was coming. Our host [hostdepartment.com] dumped us. We will be moving to a new host very soon, let's put it this way, a new and BETTER host. This is a temporary server which we have setup. Most of the site should be functional, but some of it may not work. Please bear with us until we complete our server move.
Also, if you really want to do us a favour, PLEASE flame our previous host at ANY addresses you may find on hostdepartment.com. They are really useless and have caused us a lot of trouble with a $30/month price tag. Thank you for supporting emuparadise.org in our continuing effort.
We'd also request you to PLEASE click the banner at the top of the page. This will ensure that we get a better host and that we can then make the site better everyday instead of spending more time and money on getting it up again and again. Thank you.

New Poll - Sizzling hot topic !!
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 12:29 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

Hello everyone,
There's a new poll on emuparadise.org. Ok, so you're going to find this QUITE unbelievable, but.. confession from MasJ, yes, it's true. We ARE going to have PSX roms starting December :). Here's the concept on the PSX Iso's system, make sure you read it carefully.

Concept for PSX Iso's section: Emuparadise.org will have PSX Iso's from next month, i.e. December. Now, we shall have only ONE PSX iso per month, however, if we start getting more funds from the site, we may increase it to two thereafter. Every month, there shall be a poll on the site asking you which iso's we should add, make sure you vote for the iso you want, and the game with the most votes at the end of the month shall be put on the site. Pretty simple huh ? Well, now here's where it gets complicated. We shall have a seperate members section for the iso's, you shall have your unique login and password to get the iso's.(which you can signup for, later). Now, the iso's shall be put online only one ONE condition every month, which is very simple, if we get enough money from our banners we shall but up more. So, all you've gotta do is, EVERYDAY, please click on our mod-chip banner, and then go on to visit the mod-chip site, this way, we shall be able to pay for our extra costs and provide you with better service!!. That's a simple concept, if you agree, start voting and start clicking our banners!! Hope to see a great response from all of you.

- MasJ

[Note: Vote on the left menu, under the vote section, also do NOT forget to click our banners and vote for us at the Top66, Thank you for your support.]

GBA Link Errors
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 4:40 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

A lot of people have told me that they've been having problems downloading the GBA roms. I have checked the links MANY times, and they seem to be working fine, however, just for those 50 odd people, I have moved the GBA roms to another server. This server is MUCH slower than the previous one, but hopefully, the links will work fine on this one.

NGPC Roms are up!
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 12:59 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

Well, the NeoGeo Pocket roms collection is up now. You can download Neo Geo Pocket Color roms right here on emuparadise.org! The section has approximately 100 roms for the NGPC and you can grab them all as you want, when you want, at whatever speed you want since we here at emuparadise.org believe in providing you with lightning fast downloads and for this, we only ask very little from you. No forced votes, no bullshit! Just downloads, and roms, and hard work..and a LOT of dedication.
On a side note, you may have noticed that the downloads in the emulators and other sections are not working as of now. This is because of the 'bandwidth crisis' that we're facing at the moment, so if you would please support us and vote for us (plus let that damn popup load once a day, we'd be really grateful). The downloads shall be re-enabled in a day or so. Hope to see all you fans support us, thank you. Oh! Almost forgot, you can head on to the NGPC roms section by clicking below. (Since our emulator downloads are not enabled at the moment, we shall be adding NGPC emulators only after tomorrow when the downloads shall be active. Until then, you can grab the emulators from Zophar, or some other site like EmuHQ.) ENJOY!!

Geeez..back up AGAIN
Posted by Ganondorf @ GMT 20:05 | UIN:132260769 | Message Boards

As you may know, the site was down for several hours. This problem was caused due to big server traffic, and that kind of traffic is one that we cant afford with our current budget...

So please click on the Mod Chip banner and vote for us! I know we told this million times, but it's the great way to support your favourite emulation site and that's the way to make the site bigger and bigger...and that means...more fast-speed downloads.

Site Downtime..
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 12:49 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

We had some site downtime today of about 3 hours. It was because the site has been using excessive bandwidth and we are unable to pay for it. Please help emuparadise.org , if we can't pay the bills, the site will invariably go down once again, with the amount of bandwidth we are using at the moment, it does cost a LOT! Please let that popup load atleast once a day and visit the mod-chip site through that mod-chip banner on top since it helps us pay the bills. Also, please vote for us. Such kind of downtime cripples the site and does not let it grow. Thank you for your cooperation.

Soft plugin goes Opensource!!
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 9:03 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

Pete has announced that his software plugin will soon be going opensource since he has worked on it as much as he wanted to.. Here's what his announcement says:

Announcement: 1.54 was the last release of "Pete's Soft GPU"! Why? Well, I have done all I wanted to do with the soft gpu plugin, and I think the time is right to go Open Source :)

So, in a few days the Windows & Linux sources of the soft gpu plugin will be released, but what does that mean exactly to the users of the soft plugin?

  1. the name of the plugin will change... not a big deal, I think, but I don't want to label a plugin with "Pete's whatever" when (hopefully) a lotta more people beside me are working on it.
  2. improvements in games I don't own myself... I can't investigate some issues if I don't have the game, but now the chances will be higher that another coder is able to fix the problem.
  3. more features I never cared about... maybe a smarter frame skipping? or a native FPSE interface? some special gfx modes? Dunno :)
  4. the plugin will not get bundled in my "gpupete" archive anymore. We will have to wait and see how often a new release of the OS soft gpu is happening...
And what does it mean to the psx emu/gpu plugin coders out there? There will be much informations in the source, for example the proper usage of the gpu interface, fps handling and, of course, the soft drawing funcs themselves. OK, so:
  1. the license will be GPL
  2. still I don't want to force any freeware coder to go Open Source himself, if he is using parts of the soft gpu source in his work. So, I will allow the usage of the soft gpu funcs in closed source projects, too, if
  3. the project is freeware
  4. credits are given
  5. any improvements in the open source funcs are reported back to the Open Source project.

I hope that way everybody will be happy :) And if the OS way is working well, chances are high that my hw/accel. plugins will go Open Source, too :)

Well, that's all that Pete has to say. What do you have to say ? Feel free to discuss this on our message boards. You can visit Pete's homepage here.

Thanks to NGEmu for the news.

Pete's GPU Plugins 1.54
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 8:41 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

Pete Bernert has updated his homepage with a new version of his popular GPU plugins for psx emulators. This new release has a lot of new features. I'll just paste all the details over here:

All plugins: finally I have added psx polyline support to the "WriteData" interface funcs. Polylines were only supported in dma chains before, and, to be honest, I haven't seen any game using them outside of dma chains. Well, Matesic Darko's great GPU Test Windows application is using polylines without dma chains, so I have used that one to check if all is working fine.
Btw, you can get the GPU Test app at: http://mrdario.tripod.com in the "Tools" section.

OGL/D3D plugins: Xenogears... yup... well, that game is using a hard to emulate framebuffer texture/framebuffer move combination in cutscenes and transition screens, which only could emulated properly by using "Full Vram primitives" in my hw/accel. plugins before. FVP tends to need a lot of cpu power, so I've looked if I could do an option to let the gfx card do most of the work... and there it is: a new special game fix called "framebuffer read on move". Unfortunately reading the gfx card framebuffer is also slow with most nowadays gfx cards, so I dunno how it will perform on average systems. Speed is fine on my GF3 in OGL, and kinda slow in D3D. So, my advise: use the new option only in Xenogears, or if you want to try to remove similar glitches in other games.
Btw, XG needs the new FBOM option with activated "gfx card" framebuffer textures and don't use the highest Offscreen drawing setting!
Oh, and I removed the special game fix for Tomb Raider 3... that one only was needed in the old PSEmu Pro emu to repair some of the GTE bugs, but since all newer emus can play the game without the fix, I don't think that it is needed anymore.

All plugins: the biggest change in 1.54: all software drawing funcs have been redone (lotta work), and the new soft gpu is now up to 20% faster than before. Therefore also the Offscreen drawing and FVP options of the hw/accel. gpus have gained more speed. Another nice thing with the new soft funcs: g-shaded quads are now rendered in the real psx way, check out the quad polygon in the first Sony BIOS screen (hi Galtor :)
On the other hand there is a very small chance that little g-shaded textured quads get slightly distorted... during my tests I didn't notice anything bad, but if you encounter some new glitches, drop me a mail.

OGL plugin: while adding the new soft funcs in the OGL plugin, I've noticed that the D3D plugins had a bigger security psx vram area, preventing nasty crashs. OK, now the OGL one has it, too.

Well, that's a big list of updates on the plugin. Pete, start sleeping at night ;). You can grab the plugin from below:

Arcade Updates
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 6:03 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

It's been a busy day for the arcade scene. Here's some updates. Nebula has been updated to version 1.93. You can download it from below. Here is what is new:

  • Added support for NeoGeo CD games. You'll need a game CD or a ISO+MP3 image.
  • Fixed rasters for some games (ridhero, galaxy fight, neo turf masters, top hunter, ddragon)
  • Added Vliner emulation. Check the special button configuration for this game in the controls menu.
  • Added Kof99, Prehistoric Isle 2, Ganryu, Strikers 1945 Plus and Nightmare in the Dark graphics decryption, using MAME's decryption algorithm (that means that some gfx may be wrong as the algorithm may be incomplete)
  • Fixed mshvsf VS screen top lines being drawn upside down.
  • Fixed Cheats and region for mshvsf.
  • Added VSAV2 rom data file
  • Rewritten Qsound emulation engine. Written in MMX optimised ASM it's now 3-4 times faster and more accurate. It also has a new interpolation mode that uses 4 points instead of 2. It requires more CPU power, but sounds better.
  • Fixed the usage of parent cheats if a clone has no specific cheat data. Now Region is never taken from the parent cheat, and cheat configuration is stored in the clone dat file.
  • Removed some games from the internal database that caused problems with the new dump names.
  • Fixed some Force Feedback problems
  • Fixed surface memory allocation. Now nebula requires much less VRAM to work.
  • Added separate audio configuration for each system (Qsound, Neogeo and CPS1)
Kawaks was also updated to version 1.34. Some more games are now playable.
  • Ganryu
  • Nightmare in the Dark
  • Strikers 1945+
  • Prehistoric Isle 2
  • Alpha Mission 2 romset has changed to match the latest MAME
  • Changed The King of Fighters '99: Millennium Battle so it uses the real encrypted gfx roms.
  • Fixed a bug where tick marks in the menus where cleared by changing the video memory settings from the menu or on the first launch
And to top it all, the updated Win32 port of MAME was released. You can grab all this below. I'll update the Arcade Emulators page later. ENJOY!!

-> Nebula 1.93 (Setup)
-> Kawaks 1.34
-> Mame 0.56b Windows

Apollo News
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 1:17 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

The Apollo Devlog was updated by Azimer with some info on what's been happening on the project of late. Here's what he has to say.

2:55 AM 11/1/2001
>>> I've been pulling all-nighters lately working on my project. I am pleased to say most of my rom collecting is being emulated. A few key roms which fail are Conker, Banjo Tooie, Indiana Jones, and Mario Party (I think MP is a bad dump). I fixed the problem I had with F-Zero X. I learned this rom had a provision to use the N64DD but this was never released. (obviously). This caused problems for emulating the 8MB Expansion Pak. I inserted a hack to make Yoshi Story work. You can see a screen shot of it ,here. The ingame graphics are not present. Neither are the menu graphics. :) I still need to reverse the game and find why I need the hack in the first place. I also put in a hack to make A Bug's Life work. I HATE hacks. I will be thrilled when I can remove both those. What else can I mention... Golden Eye no longer need the hack to function. My TLB is rock solid now. There is a sorrowful thing to mention however. In the process of fixing more roms, I broke all progress I had with Banjo Tooie. It got to the point where it was producing many audio lists. Unfortunately, I didn't catch this detail until I backed up the source. By then, my previous backup was overwritten. Not a big deal since I have many more positive things to say. As far as the broken roms, Conker needs a better FPU. Indiana, I haven't a clue, but I have a hunch it's either FPU or out of my hands (plugin related). Tooie... no clue. But those are the last I have to emulate. Now for Apollo's future? I am starting to work slowly on a Dynarec. I considered having RatTrap make a release soon, but the interpretive isn't worth the time to make it releasable. It's WAY too slow on my 1.4Ghz machine. This is likely my last devlog update until something major happens like Conker or Tooie work. ciao. (((Azimer))

A pretty promising update. Apollo is looking good and well, just drooling for a release. You can visit the apollo homepage here.

Thanks to emulation64 for the news.

Some emulation news...
Posted by MasJ @ GMT 11:47 | UIN:57687069 | Message Boards

Here's some interesting(and sad) news from the emulation community.
DC News:
The NesterDC homepage was updated by Dave. Here's what Dave said:

1. A sad farewell to Ken Friece... thanks for all your hard work, and good luck in whatever you do!
2. Welcome to Takayama Fumihiko, the NEW programmer for NesterDC! We can expect great things from him!
3. We have a new message board, so check it out! (You'll need to register your names again, though)

Anyway, we can expect a version 4.0 release any day now, so stick around!

Gameboy Advance
In the Gameboy Advance emulators scene things seem to be always on the move. Here's what's been happening over there.
A new version of the Gameboy Advance emulator, Mappy VM was released yesterday. This is a debugger for the gameboy advance games. A good utility for emulator developers.
PocketNES b5 was released. PocketNES is a NES emulator for the gameboy advance. It's a pretty good concept :). You can download the emulator below.

Snes
There was an unofficial release of Snes9x today. This brings it up to version 9.9.7. Here's what's new in this version:
  • New color blending code
  • Fixed a portion of the memory map
  • Game operation and indication correction
  • Small modification to the IRQ operation
  • Added up-to-date SNESAPU
  • Minor changes to the sound core
You can grab this also from the download links below.
Hint: There's a lot brewing in the emuparadise.org snes arena ;). Think! Think!
