Does anyone else have corrupted .exe files? programs, games won't start for aparently no reason at all(exept for the virus thingie). i was just wondering if it's the same virus, or i have more.

PS: did u see that?(the f-secure link from del_boy, page bottom). This virus was only discovered today! and look at how fast we all got it, and look at all the damage, i can't wait to see what happens on the 16th.

EDIT: U will most probably have to download the latest virus definitions as well. But I belive yes, it will remove it; it won't get any worst than this.(let's hope)

I'm glad I run 98, because this seems to be spreading pretty fast :\

This is easy to fix. Go into "My Network places" then click View network connections. Right click on what you use for your internet connection and go to properties. Click the advanced tab. Then click the option that says "protect". This activates XP's Firewall. Hope this helps. It worked for me.

When I go to properties, it says an unexpected error occurred and wont let me in. Also I can't click on the links or copy the links that Del_Boy posted because of this problem, the only way I can go to sites is if I type them or they are in the drop down list in the address bar.

    Other problems I'm having

    Nothing will open through WMP
I can't open stuff by double clicking it, I have to right click/open with/whatever...

Easy way to remove the virus:

    1. Disconnect from the net
    2. Go to msconfig
    3. Disable Msblast
    4. Go to Windows/System32, look for MSblast, delete it
    5. Start>Run and type regedit, go to find and search for msblast delete the resultant key which is Auto Windows Update
    6. Go to Windows/Precache, delete the file from there

Log onto the net, and download the security updates mentioned in this thread.

If you get the shutdown in the meantime, go to a command prompt and do shutdown -a to stop the shutdown from happening.

Woo my first thread to be stickied.

Anyway, where is msconfig? I am not familliar with XP, this is my dad's computer. Also, if i go into regedit and make a mistake, will it mess anything up?
I'm not used to doing this sort of stuff...
