Default I have to spend 1500$ at dell.com

    Hey all

I have to spend 1500$ (and not a penny more) at dell.com

    What should I get?

I allready have a pretty nice PC, a 17 inch LCD, nice speakers, etc, etc.

I suppose I could use a new hard drive, another LCD (my GFX card supports 2 monitors), maybe a projecter, or should I buy a new computer and rape it for parts and sell the carkass on ebay?

I might do that, I could use a faster CPU (mines a P4 2.6Ghz 533Mhz FSB) and 2 more 256MB sticks of 400Mhz ram, and a big SATA hard drive.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT: Or should I try to get a dual Zeon system? I can almost get a dual 2.4 GHz Zeon system down to 1500$

Well, I've been doing some comapiring here, and I have basically 2 options:

#1 Buy a "normal" desktop computer and take the 3GHz 800Mhz FSB P4, 2x 256MB 400Mhz ram, 120GB SATA hard drive, and have 450$ left over, enuff to buy another 17inch LCD.

#2 Buy a server class machine and take the dual 2.8Ghz Zeon CPUs, motherboard, 36GB U360 SCSI drive, and one 256MB 200Mhz ram.

    If I did #1 I would end up with 3Ghz P4, 1GB 400MHz ram, 120GB SATA drive, dual 17 inch LCD monitors.

If I did #2 I woud end up with dual 2.8GHz 533FSB Zeons, 768MB 200MHz Ram, dual Zeon mobo with intergrated U360 SCSI support, 36GB SCSI drive.

I'm pretty sure the dual Zeons will smoke the P4 even with slower RAM and FSB, but then I dont get another 17 inch LCD.

Akkk, I cant decide, what do you guys think?

Does it HAVE to be a full computer? I mean really your computer is fast enough right now that spending $1500 just for some minor internal upgrades would be a complete waste of money. Computer components like that fade out and get cheaper fast, especially now with the athlon64 out. If you have a fast computer already spend the money on things that have a longer lifetime.
Get stuff like that second monitor, dvd burner, digital camera, another harddrive, a stick of a gig of memory if you want to upgrade a little. I'm sure you'd enjoy that stuff more than to spend $1500 and end up with a computer that's a little faster than what you already have.

also I havn't kept up with things all too much lately so is this just another surge of people thinking dual processor machines are going to be really fast for a home user and make thier computers twice as fast, or did they start making more games and aps that would actually use that setup. Seems more are mentioning them, maybe someone can clear that up for me.

If your going for a server grade computer remember that Opterons are cheaper and thrash Dual Xeons 3.2ghz.

I personally would save my cash for another 6 months or so. (Though you could buy a copy of PyroDVD; see link below)

    *wets his pants* projector?
I didn't know they had cheaper projectors out like that. Did it come with a screen too or is that seperate? You have got to take a picture or something when you get that setup, I gotta see how it looks when it's stretched out.
Do you know what resolution and refresh rate it can go up to? Although I won't be able to get one for quite a while I'm interested.
