    Question PS2 questions

Hi, I have a few questions
1)I am planning to buy a chip for my PS2 that will allow me play burned games... The question is what kind of disc I need.Should it be a normal PC disc or I need to find a spacial disc for that?

2)Will that chip allow me to play games from other regions?

3)I heard you can play PS1 games in the PS2 is it true?
(I ask this because I can't play them and I'm worried
    :\ )

4)last but not least: FF10 hangs in specific locations. It happens in screen transetion, and whenever that happens the music proceed but the picture does not show up. I suspect it is not the disc, yet the PS2- CD-rom is to blame because it can't play DVD movies as-well(well most times it doesn't)
    thanks for your halp

You can use CD-Rs or DVDs (not sure whether it's DVD-R or DVD+R, probably +) to back up your games.
A modchip will allow you to play other regions discs.
The PS2 can play PS1 games, though not all of them work perfectly, but pretty much all of them. In fact, you can enable the PS2 to make PS1 games load faster and look smoother/cleaner.
Sounds like your laser is just about dead or dirty, since you said you can't play PS1/DVD games. Clean the laser and if that doesn't work buy a new laser or PS2. As using burned CD-Rs/DVDs puts more wear and tear on your laser. So it is only a matter of time before it dies.

    1) buy a new PS2 dude and think about chipping then
No you don't need special media to burn your games on

    2) Yes (Ask for chip recomendations though)

    3) PS2 is sposed to be able to play PSone games yeah, it has a PSone emu build into the system (Some chips don't support PSone backups)

    4) Buy a new PS2

Note:- there is another option that you can take though and thats to buy a fliptop case and boot magic disc's

The only discs the PS2 cannot read is CD-RW/DVD-RW. And i think it will read both DVD+/-R. Only way to find out is to either read the chip specs, or try it out.

    1) Good for you! You mean PS2 games? If it's a DVD rip you need a CD-R. If it's a full DVD, you need a DVD-R...
    2) Depending on the chip. I suggest getting DMS3.
    3) Yes. You can play your PS1 games in your PS2. A few obscure Japanese titles doesn't work though.
    4) You never know with DVD rips. Just buy the damn game.

I have a US version 10 console and it read CD-RW and DVD-RW just fine. I guess it won't do that if you have earlier version.

I'm sorry but it sounds like you need to buy a new PS2. How old is your PS2?

I also heard that the V5 PS2 is the only one that can read DVD+R. I have a V5, and it reads them perfectly. I don't have any other version of PS2 to test it on though. I could probably bring my disks to myt friends house and see if he has a different version. You shouldn't need a modchip to play backup movies. I can do it easily on mine. It is not modded and can read DVD-R and DVD+R movies.

umm, you sure I can't just switch the lazer or the CD and it'll make FFX works?

There was a version of the PS2 where Sony "officially" added support for DVD-R (their format, and not the superior +R).

These models are missing the FireWire link on the front ports, but still retain the USB ports.

Replacing the laser is such a hassel, just go buy a ps2+NA combo for 150 USD

for burned games, all you need is a screwdriver & some common sense. the lazer's fixable, adjust the height (theres a wheel inside the cdrom unit housing). thats the same way you fox it when your ps2 stops reading dvds

Why is everyone here reccomending dvd +R they have compatibility problems and are best used for multisession data storage.

For all your write once purposes DVD -R is best because it has a far higher compatibility (Im not sure about the PS2 and games but many more DVD players will play DVD -R's than +R's)
