    Tell me about it...

I was just trying to make an .img of a PSX game in Alcohol120%. It did'nt fail rather it just stopped at 33% with the clock still ticking. So I tested the game in ePSXe and upstairs on my PSX with no problems, there were no problems when I initialy burnt the game either. Any ideas what might cause this and why?

    Thanks in Advance

Is it true Euro Dreamcasts can play copied games without needing a modchip?

Yes all versions in europe play selfboots

There are a few games that require patching to boot on a euro DC and if you use a RBG scart lead you will need to display patch a few games (Not that many need it though)

Most selfboot games will just boot and display corectly though, there are very few that need patches.

Yeah I own a euro DC and have well over 200 selfboots so far

The Display/boot patcher can be found at http://members.lycos.co.uk/megalexxx/

If you want to find out if a game is self boot, just see how many sessions it has
In general if it has 2 sessions then it's self boot

If a game is not self boot and you don't like using Utopia you can make the
noneboots into selfboots, you can find a quick and easy guide for that in the
    Emulator and Hardware Guides thread

I didn't know that and you can pick them up for next to nothing

oh and sabator, badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger Mushroom Mushroom.

To richardstone did you finish the image making? If so the reason it stop becuase it tries to make a perfect image of it if you know what i mean, any scratches in the disc stops this so alcohol keeps running over that part till it gets a perfect copy, I'm not sure if this is the same with all iso making programs, but thats the easiest i can explain it

Wow, SEGA sure screwed up there. One question, how to you get 1GB DC games onto 700MB CDs? I would have to drop some video files, right?

You can, from what I heard squeeze files larger than 700mb onto a cd like 730mb but don't hold me to that, also I think that you can find 800Mb disks being sold now.

Alot of the games never did fully use the space of the GD-Roms's and yeah there are alot with downsampled movie/sound files and a few that are spanned over more than one CD, there are also your standard CD music rips, personly I replace the music tracks or maybe just shorten a few of em.

Yeah I used 800Mb/70 mins CD's for all my Dreamcast stuff, games, emulators, ports and tons of other stuff.

I only got my Dreamcast a couple of months back, but I guess I picked up a few tricks rather quick.

If you are planning on doing your own rips you would need either a Coder Cable or a Broad Band Adaptor to do that though, as a PC CD or DVD drive can't actully read GD-Roms so you need to sort of stream the data from your DC to your PC
lucky though that the dreamcast can read none boot and self boot CDR's even though they are not in GD-Rom format

No offense but i think you can still get a decent game of doom3 and the like on lower end cards. But personally the BFG cos it has a geforce fx on it i think the 9600XT has some problems(I'm not too sure if thats a radeon card, but if its not forget this) something about the new radeon cards having some problems with the processor,(its been so long since i heard this so it might be better to ignore the ramble about the radeon cards

I would go with Diamond Viper 9600XT, even though i'm a big fan of Nvidia.

But if I'm just downloading them, I'd be fine, right? If I had DC games, what would be the point in ripping them if I could play the normal discs.

This has been really getting on my nerves lately, I can't stop thinking about it. How the Hell did SEGA not put any copyright protection in the DC?

The same way Nintendo didn't with there new GameCube LOL

Simple you can't just pop the disc in a PC drive and copy, that was the protection, aswell as direct to CD coppies do not work anyway, as they have to be dual sessions A.K.A selfboots, this was prolly something Sega just did not know about, someone may even figure a way of doing something like that for the GameCube from mini DVD-R's
