What about the Romance of 3 Kingdoms series?

Romance of the 3 Kingdoms is totally about China, in the same vein as the Dynasty series .

Koei's Japan series is Nobunaga's Ambition, but good luck if you want to track down all it's parts. Only two or 3 are available in English, and the naming is confusing, e.g. what's called part 2 in English is not the actual part two of the japanese series - now that wouldn't be too hard to figure out. Problem is, the english games also happen to be based on different Japanese ones I believe, e.g. it's possible the english computer versions are not the same as any of the english console games.

Heh, I'm planning on making a Japan-themed beat-em-up on the Beats of Rage engine. Some levels will be set in modern Japan, but others will be set in Feudal Japan. I also plan to have some levels set in the Meiji and WWII eras.

Oooh. Last Ninja on C64. I love that game but it's kinda hard to play. Last Ninja 2 and 3 are nicer games, but move the action to a more modern setting.
