You CAN set your FTP to act on different ports.. wink wink..
You CAN set your FTP to act on different ports.. wink wink..
So if I were to set my port to 40 they couldnt track me?
Also kirby's ftp is like kirby.myftp.org
When I try to do that at no-ip.com it won't let me put in my private address. Can you help?
No ip doesn't do anything special, they can still track you.
All it does is redirect that name to your IP address. Are you trying to put in your LAN address, or your external address?
They could still track you, it's just far less likely. Especially if you get a SSL connection, but that's tricky and prolly not worth it.
Hm...I followed your instructions but i still can't get it to work right. The user connects to the ftp but can't login using the user account I created. Can anyone help with this?
Can you give us an error message?
I followed all your steps and it's not working for me. I get this error message from CuteFTP 6.0:

I'm also using a router, but I configured it using the tutorial posted in the orginal post. Also, about the IP address, what do i use instead of my address in the network as known as static ip? What am I doing wrong?
Please let me know. Thanks

Well, do you connect directly to your cable modem? If so - you don't have a router.
If you don't, you might have a router. Try entering 192.168.4.1 OR 192.168.4.254 into internet explorer - those are common router address'.
Non of these adresses work
Mabe i dont have router (or have other, not common adress), if it a chance that i have some other kind of error?
If yes pls someone, find out it first.
If you want more details what i forgot to write here, just ask, and i'll answer as soon as posible.
I realy need that FTP...
Try using this to get your IP
Start > Run > Type in "cmd" and select ok
Then type "ipcinfg /all"
It will list an IP address there, try that
The default for many routers is 192.168.1.1
Why don't you try that?
What i type in cmd "ipconfig /all" (you had to mistakes Deach!)
It written taht my rotuter is off....
WINS Proxy Server is also off...
DHCP off too...
And i woundering what the hell is that thing written one line higher then DHCP: "00-10-5A-2F-0D-90"?
And didnt find any other ip than that network only...
When i telling you all that i hope you can figure out something and help me...
Please

Chris - PM me, I think you might not have a router. There's something else we can try, but I don't want to do it here (where everyone can read).
Stickied.
umm i got the lynksis router i did all of it , but i had to do an extra step to get mine to work, i think you should include this:
for my router it makes a dynamic ip (always changing) it changes every 24 hours. Anyways for it to work at all for me i have to go to : Admin/Options/Advanced Settings then press the detect button and let it copy my outer ip. Then go to Ok and reset the server. You still have to forward all the ports and what-not but i had to do that extra step for it to work for me.
