    Default AVI to MPG converter?

What is a good AVI to MPG converter? I used some and the output file did not have any sound. Can someone recommend one that supports sound please?

Windows Movie Maker doesn't output mpg. Use TMPGEnc. It is free for MPEG1 encoding and can do MPEG2 for 30 days. You have to pay for MPEG2 after that.

Maybe it only converted the video stream and kept the audio in ogg or mp3 or whatever format it was in (and therefore the DVD player may not decode the audio).

I used http://www.flydragonsoft.com/download.htm last time I wanted to convert some videos for my mate to see on his DVD player. It is trial period software (but either money or unmentionable means can fix that).

Get virtualdub and TMPGEnc. Open virtualdub, then open the file you want to convert (file>open video file). Once you've opened it, go to the audio menu, and click WAV audio, then goto compressionon the same menu, and click no compression from the list (something like that). Then press ok, and go to file and click save WAV and it will make a WAV file. Then you just select that file as the audio source in TMPGEnc.

    Not sure wether thats right

Deach, I think that is perfect. The outputted file should work on even most bog standard dvd players

You can probably find some information on that here.

ogm appears to be a divx video file that uses ogg audio.

Ooh close but no score, OGM is xvid video and ogg vorbis audio, So just get the xvid codec and your set.
