Default RPC error/MSBLAST (Read first post for instructions)

EDIT: How to get rid of this virus :

First, to get rid of the shutdown prompt do this :
Start>Run>CMD, and then type Shutdown -a

    Now, do this

    1. Disconnect from the net
    2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and kill the process called MSBlast.exe
    3. Go to Start>Run>msconfig
    4. Disable Msblast [You can also do this in regedit but this is safer]
    5. Go to C: \Windows\system32, look for MSblast, delete it.
    6. Then :Start>Run>regedit, go to edit>find and search for msblast, delete the resultant key to the left which is Auto Windows Update.
    7. Go to C: \Windows\Prefetch, delete the msblast file from there.

Restart your system, then go here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...n/MS03-026.asp and download the appropriate patch.

(Information was provided by Del Boy, patch link provided by Forever Zero, (Small fixes by Lord Riff Raff [sorry Daz for editing your post])

Do you know why it happened? I'm curious...

Anyway, i went to the recovery tab and changed all the failure thing to "take no action", is this what i was supposed to do?

It seems to be fixed now, thanks alot.*voted for you*

It's some kinda virus. Well, it's not what you can exactly define virus, but it's something similar. A friend of mine knows everything about it. I can ask him if you are curious.

The worst thing is that i don't know where and how i got the virus. Yeah, shit does happen. U should check u'r hard for viruses too, Daz.

I don't think it was that guy's site. because i haven't been there.

Anyway the shutdown thing has stopped for me now, but in internet explorer when i right-click and select 'open in new window' it doesn't work, and any pop-up type thing doesn't work, also anything with java is not working, so i bet this thing is still on my system. Anyone else getting these type of problems?

I'm downloading the program that X Zrex recommended, i'll post here to say if it works or not....

Just been suffering with this bastard myself, check here for more details:

    http://www.the-cloak.com/Cloaked/+cf.../msblast.shtml

And remember to patch your copy of XP up. BTW, when you get the shutdown message you can do this:

Start>Run>CMD, and then type Shutdown -a

    http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/msblast.shtml

The original link is due to the fact that I can't access that site any other way at the moment.

Does F-Secure Anti-Virus remove this annoying piece of crap from my system?
