    Default Linux "flavors"...?

    OK, this is pretty simple...

Which distribution of Linux would you recommend and for what reasons... (Support, documentation, ease of use, etc.)?

I want to install it on my PC, but I just need a little help on which one I should get (if there's any difference)...

    That is all...

SuSE 9.0 all the way baby

Super easy to install and use. Its not free tho, I think its costs 60$ or 70$. You can download ISOs, but there not legal.

If you want totally free linux, get mandrake. And if you want the full linux experience use gentoo, gentoo is hard to install, but once your done you'll know much more about linux.

I would recommend red hat for new people that are used to the microsoft windows system.

If you want to get advanced or want to become a guru, get debian.

Note that most pay for linux o.s. are driver specific, meaning if you want to update your drivers for a specific type of hardware you'll have to make sure its fine with that paritcular o.s.

True free linux distrubutions are not driver/software specific. And are without the fancy windows gui (you can however install a windows "shell" into any linux). Note that these distributions are "hard" to install you'll have to know every pci/agp component before you install.

Graphics, and 3D polygons don't make great games, story-lines do!!

    Suse is free:

What you pay for is "support".

all distro's of linux are free, THIS is a legal binding in linux im pretty sure to do with the GNU.
It is not illegal to download any distro of linux, I would recomend SUSE 9 also, great support and ease of use (I dont mean the kind of support you pay for, the kind that means it works well with lots of stuff).
Im pretty sure its actually illegal to sell linux and not allow free distribution.

edit: sadly because Ru is leaving emuparadise (I hope his life goes really well) this will have to be advice to those others interested in this topic.

I appreciate all the comments! Now I'm all interested in SUSE and stuff...

Yeah, Norgus is right. The OS is supposed to be free, what you pay for is company support.

Hmm... I've been considering making my pc multiboot with linux myself lately. The two things that I'd most like to have from a linux build are good support for programming and good support for windows emulation (I run a server on irc and I'd like to keep it up while I'm using linux without using entirely different software which would mess up peoples queues and stuff.) What do you guys reccomend?

However if you sell cds then you also need to include the source on the cd.

I guess thats why in most distros there are so many cd's and there is usually an equivalent DVD.

Does anyone know where you can download all the SUSE 9 CD iso's? I dont meen the iso that you boot from and instal linux over the internet with.

Mr Hwoarang needs to know this so he can get it.
