The US version of Contra Hard Corps is pretty brutal. Three hits and you're toast.

I beat Rockman (Japanese one) for the PSX and didn't find it all that hard.

In fact, I beat it on my first try.

Maybe the NES version is harder than the PSX?

I never beat Illusion of Gaia for the SNES though (talking real cartridge on a real SNES)

I might try it on an emulator, but I didn't really like it that much.

Yeah, Ninja Gaiden Black on Master Ninja is a bitch. My friend is trying to beat it using only the nunchucks just for kicks.

Megaman 1 is actually pretty easy. Not sure why anyone would play Megaman 1 anyway. 2 is obviously 1000X better just because of Crashman's music.

I'm actually currently having trouble beating Red Faction, because a) The bad guys in the last leg of the game have weapons that at minimum do 30 or so damage each, with about a third of third of them equipted with 1 hit kill rail guns that shoot through walls, and b) The game doesn't auto-save in any way, and the "restart" button on the death screen doesn't restart the level, but rather THE ENTIRE FUCKING GAME.
Contra on the GB I remember being especially hard. Because of the smaller screen and worse controls than the NES.
As I was walking down the stair,
    I met a man who wasn't there.
    He wasn't there again today.
    I wish, I wish he'd go away.

I'm currently getting (tentacle) raped in "the thing" (PS2 version). Pretty decent survival horror, well done movie tie in (although it's really more of a "sequal" than a tie in), but WHERE ARE THE FUCKING MEDKITS???? Basically you get about 4 per level, each one recovers half your health or half the health of a team member. Sure there are "medics" every 2-3 levels that carry infinite medkits, but they're extremely prone to infection, they seem to have a lower health meter, they can't self heal and they can't hit crap and therefore tend to die a lot. And then there's the fact they have weak stomachs and freak out too easily. If I had a nickle for every time I've seen a medic with a gun in his mouth...

Throw in the fact that you can get killed by about 2 hits and that killing alot of the enemies requires using the crappy ranged flamethrower or blowtorch to "finish them off" and you have a recipe for rape. Also, the "crawlers" tend to break apart if you don't flame them properly. Then you've got about 3-4 tiny monsters that each do about 1/4 health damage per hit. Luckily the problem decreases somewhat after the halfway point, but still a pain.

Aside from that, I seem to recall Alein 3 for the SNES being rediculously hard.

hmm, movie related games being hard or crap... I sense a pattern...

Are you mad, hard corps was the easiest contra game.

I'd go with 3 for the challenge.

You mean the SNES version? If so, I'm with you, in 8-star difficulty you get massive damage for a light p/k and you can barely drop the half of that to the computer with a Strong p/k.

    T. Hawk FTW.

Oh, I'd like to add Front Mission IV.

After a while I got lazy and stopped healing (which is lame.. stupid Square) and winning a fight was real fucking hard after that.

Don't know about you, but after playing Gears of War I got used with no using Medkits at all...thing is, the damn COG's can recover by sitting and wait to stop bleeding to death. So yeah, it's kinda weird to play a game and have to look for recover items.
